FARM HOUSE BUILDING

Rick and I were in Port Edward a few weekends back and went to visit an old friend who is building a house on their farm. What I find so interesting about the house, is the fact that it isn’t being built with your typical block or brick. The walls consist on concrete panels, if one may call it that. Basically, metal uprights are held in place and concrete poured in. The concrete is left to dry and the metal uprights removed.. forming your new wall. I am not sure as to the cost compared to brick or block but ultimately it will be one of the strongest houses around.

The inland view is absolutely beautiful! Makes me wonder what I am doing living in the city!

Hope you all having a lovely week so far!

NEW IN THE DESIGN WORLD

Miele has set to launch their new DA 2900 Ceiling Extractor at the end of March 2012. This ceiling mounted extractor offers a streamlined alternative to the standard extractor hood that, in most cases, obstructs the view to another room in an open plan kitchen.

This discreet designed extractor is not only a remarkable design, but is very energy effecient, saving up to 70% energy. The four removable panels, a choice of either stainless steel or alabaster glass, are easily removable and are dishwasher safe.

Price – R 32 999.00 and the panels are R 2 299.00 each (stainless steel) and R 2 999.00 each (alabaster glass)

Consol’s award winning Solar Jar is absolute genius! This little glass jar has a small solar panel in the lid which charges up during the day and when needed can be switched on! Fantastic hey? These Solar jar’s can last up to 6 hours before needing to be recharged and can be used just about anywhere!

Go check them out at the Consol website.

UPHOLSTERED HEADBOARDS

For those of you who enjoy a little extravagance in the bedroom, nothing quite does it better than a beautiful headboard. There are so many styles one can choose from and it can be quite daunting choosing the right fabric, what size to go, what style… Just remember, keep it true to your style and personality and above all keep it practical.

Have a lovely week all!

PRODUCT DESIGN: WOODEN SIDE TABLES

These were designed a while back and my talented father helped transform my vision into the real thing. The logs were left outside in the sun to dry out. Once dry, they were stripped of all their bark and the tops routered. What I love about the routing is that it takes on the shape of each of the wooden stumps. The stainless steel was brushed to give it a more rustic look and is moulded to suit each log.

What do you think?
