This past Saturday Rick and I were thrilled to be able share this special day with our “Zanzibar” friends, Mark and Tarryn. We call them our Zanzibar friends as we met them on our honeymoon in Zanzibar nearly two years ago and liked them so much we decided to keep them as friends!

It was such a lovely day filled with laughter, great food and fantastic company!

South African Artist: Gail Van Lingen

The Elizabeth Gordon Gallery has recently introduced a new artist to their gallery, GAIL VAN LINGEN. Gail is a South African based artist who has made a name for herself in Cape Town and Johannesburg, and is currently living in KZN.

This is what the Elizabeth Gordon Gallery has to say about her remarkable artwork.

“During 1987 – 91 Gail embarked on a project to paint the Battlefields of South Africa. The project immersed her in intensive historical research and set her traveling the length and breadth of the country, to archives and museums, and to camping battlefields themselves. Recognising the historical value of the paintings, Times Media Limited contracted to buy the series of 20 works for their offices. Her works were later published in the book, Battlefields of South Africa.”

I love her unique use of paint, the thick strokes makes her pieces come alive under the light and really captures the essence of the subject matter.

Have a lovely weekend everyone!

REVAMP IT – Guest bedroom and study

Welcome to the first monthly REVAMP IT post that Portfolio has written as guest author for Creative Stream.

For those of you unaware as to what the REVAMP IT is about, let me briefly explain. Each month a reader will be selected and Portfolio will do a make over of the room that they have sent pictures of. I will require a great deal of info from you like your colour preferences, your decor style, your likes and dislikes about the area. I will also need measurements of the furniture and room space in order to give you a more accurate concept.

For this months REVAMP IT post, Debs has asked for help with her guest bedroom. She wants it to be inviting and comfortable for guests to stay in, as well as double up as a creative workspace for her and her husband. Her colouration for the room is light blue, dark blue and orange / coral.

Below are the “BEFORE” pictures of the spare bedroom.. Check out the REVAMP at Creative Stream blog, here.

I look forward to hearing from all you lovely people looking to spruce up a room!

Remember to email us your photo’s and info to
And become a follower of both Portfolio and Creative Stream blogs.
